double face stripes, with the darker dividing stripes in ribs
the end / end warp gives a strong colour and weave diagonal effect.
The sample above on the left shows how the plain weave areas and floats of warp and weft distort to make more rounded shapes. A feeling of depth is accentuated by the use of a darker uniform colour in between the multi-colour stripes. The draft left was used, mainly as an exercise to see what other ideas could evolve. Detail. enlargement above.
Below are a series of weaves woven on the same thread up and warp. The narrow grey / brown stripes are spread over the first four shafts. Then on from shafts 5 - 12 one group and 13 - 20 another group. This gives the freedom to weave any 4 shaft weave on the dividing stripes and any 8 shaft weave on the other group. Spread in two groups means that the pattern can be offset. Also being end / end in the warp gives the freedom with double weaves to choose which colour to appear on the surface.

alternating double face weave in the stripes in long blocks
3 /1 twill in the dark dividing stripes
these ribs can be woven on the same thread up or also using even less shafts as shown above
using double plain weave, the two colours in the stripes can be accentuated in blocks and stripes. dark dividing stripe also in double weave.
