Just a couple of examples of the fantastic variety of colourful patterns and structures one can weave.
A personal view of some complex woven structures
Weaving was once a cottage industry. Now woven materials are produced at high speed from industrial looms where time and material use equates with money and efficiency. To produce quickly and economically complicated techniques and coloured warps might be avoided. Realising that some of the knowledge relating to weaving might be fading, this site is meant to highlight some of the many possibilities available. Most of these materials are suitable for dobby weaving. Jacquard designs will be introduced too.
I have had many years of experience weaving on a hand loom producing ideas for a collection of woven curtain materials. Like so many design disciplines a lot of ideas can be produced each season but only a limited amount can be then produced commercially. Sometimes the more intricate ideas involving too many colours can be rejected on practical grounds. In the eyes of a weaver a dobby hand loom with twenty four shafts offers endless permutations. Weaving is a very laborious craft. This site will not be an instruction manual on how to weave but more a visual source backed up by an indication of a threading draft and is aimed at those who are already familiar with the process of making a warp and setting up a loom.
I have drawn on my archive of woven samples which never reached production as a library to illustrate different techniques and effects. This will slowly be added to as and when I unravel the technical details of each small sample.

welcome to Weaves by Wendy, a weaving reference site. The purpose of showing these weaves is non-commercial and meant purely to share my knowledge, experience and fascination with weaves with others. I would certainly be interested if any of these ideas inspired you to further research or an actual cloth.
